
In a perfect world, you should be able to get all the nutrients you need from your diet. After all, human beings were alive and well on this planet for thousands of years subsisting only on what nature had to offer.
But we all know that this world in which we live today is far from perfect! Compared to years ago, vegetables and fruits are sorely lacking in minerals. Commercial fertilizers and unnatural farming techniques have created an “artificial turf” for these plants and trees to grow in. Did you know that you’d have to eat 40 bowls of today’s spinach to get the same amount of iron you’d get in a single bowl 60 years ago? This is truly mind boggling!
Vitamin C is another good example of a nutrient that is much lower in today’s produce than in the wild fruits and berries of years ago. It’s almost impossible today to get an adequate amount of this important vitamin from food sources alone. You would have to consume a bushel of oranges a day in order to get the 2,000 mg of vitamin C necessary to prevent or reverse heat disease (and substantially lower your risk of cancer).
And although many of us love oranges, that would be a bit much! Sadly enough, supplements are a fact of life in this day and age. They have become necessary to restore vibrant health to our bodies that have been starved of vitamins, antioxidants, and other nutrients no longer available in our existing food supply. On the bright side, we are fortunate today to have available to us many brands of high quality nutritional supplements to ensure we are getting the required vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for a healthy life.
